The courage to bounce back - the story of a new beginning for Fabrice Amedeo

29 October 2023

On November 7, 2023, Fabrice Amedeo and Andreas Baden set sail for the 16th season of the Transat Jacques Vabre. After a  nine day wait in the port of Le Havre due to bad weather conditions, the 40 fastest monohulls (IMOCA) set off on a 3,750-mile race that will take them all the way to Martinique. For our skipper, it marks the start of a new adventure after his first boat sank during the Route du Rhum 2022.

Supported by Hager Group and its partners, and backed by his team and family, Fabrice has found the strength and courage to bounce back with a new boat more in line with the values that make up Fabrice's project:

- a laboratory boat in the service of science and ocean preservation,
- a "solar impulse" boat covered in solar panels, with the ambition of circumnavigating the globe without the use of fossil fuels.
- a boat that will support a new educational project to raise awareness of ocean preservation among schoolchildren, and the "1 mile = 1 euro" operation to raise funds for associations and foundations working for a better world.

Experience this epic journey from the inside with our video "Waves of energy: how Fabrice Amedeo got his sea legs back”. It retraces from the inside the major stages of the project since the Route du Rhum, the moments of doubt and of determination, but also the construction of the ambitious project to design a boat cut out to sail around the world in energy autonomy, in partnership with Hager Group teams.

"We've come a long way in the last year, but also since the launch of this new boat on July 12th. Thanks to all my partners who have made this possible. I'm very happy to be back on the open sea, but also to be relaunching my oceanographic project. And we have a new goal on this route between Le Havre and Martinique via Brazil: to cross the Atlantic on the strength of the wind and without having to rely on fossil fuels to recharge our batteries." Explain Fabrice Amedeo.

This Transat Jacques Vabre 2023, a real-life-size test in the run-up to the Vendée Globe 2024, will have a special flavor for our skipper accompanied by German co-skipper Andreas Baden. We wish them fair winds and sunshine on their way to Martinique!
