Light + Building has been suspended

In light of the worldwide situation caused by the Corona pandemic and the associated bans on events and travel restrictions, Messe Frankfurt, together with its partners - ZVEI and ZVEH - and the Advisory Council of Messe Frankfurt, has agreed to suspend the 11th Light + Building fair. The next edition of the world's leading trade fair is therefore scheduled to take place from 13 to 18 March 2022.

Due to the current corona crisis, it was not possible to hold Light + Building 2020 as originally planned in March, which is why the decision has been taken to postpone the world's leading trade fair for lighting and building technology until 27 September to 2 October 2020. In response, Messe Frankfurt, together with its partners, has initiated appropriate measures to ensure that any postponement of the event can be carried out in the best possible way possible. Following a renewed assessment of the current situation and ten weeks after the initial postponement, given the joint decision by the federal and state governments that major events may not be held in Germany until at least the end of August, it is not possible to ensure that preparations and the implementation will proceed according to plan. Travel regulations and assembly bans play a central role in the staging of events of any kind. It is the aim of the sector and also of the economy, in general, to hold a world's leading trade fair, Light + Building, in a manner that is appropriate and in line with customer expectations, concept and service promise. Messe Frankfurt is currently unable to guarantee this claim.

"The current regulations coupled with continuing global travel restrictions and the potential threat to individual health make it impossible to hold Light + Building in 2020", remarks Wolfgang Marzin, Member of the Board of Management of Messe Frankfurt. "At the same time, we must avert unnecessary costs at an early stage in the interests of exhibitors and visitors. The decision has not been easy for any of us, but we are now focusing our energy on holding the next Light + Building in 2022 as scheduled".

Daniel Hager, Chairman of the German Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers' Association (ZVEI) and CEO of the Hager Group, added: "In the current situation, we could not have experienced the positive, collaborative and innovative spirit that has always characterised Light + Building. Everyone's head is somewhere else and social distance is not appropriate at a trade fair. That's why we should all look ahead: The trade fair should continue to be a beacon for the sector and a platform for the exchange of ideas. I am sure that with new energy we will have a better starting position for the event in March 2022.

Torsten Schulz, Managing Director of Hager Vertriebsgesellschaft, also addresses all customers: "We regret that this year we have to forego the fair as an important platform for the exchange of ideas with our customers and partners. We will therefore conduct the talks in a different way. One thing is clear: We will remain in close contact, as we have been in the past weeks, and are looking forward to presenting the new products planned for the fair with the September News".
