Seeking Solid Solutions for a Sustainable Future

In Edinburgh, remarkable progress has been achieved in making the city more accessible for everyone by transforming the city's infrastructure and mobility systems. How was this transformation possible? During this talk, you'll discover not only the answers to these questions but also numerous other surprising connections that will inspire new approaches to challenges around sustainability. Put aside the "what" and "why." In this talk, we're focusing on the "how."

How can we address climate change effectively? How can we develop cities that prioritize health, inclusivity, and environmental friendliness? How can we design buildings and infrastructure that serve the well-being of both humanity and the planet?

The role of innovation in sustainability

For us innovation holds the answer. We need to innovate in buildings, communities, infrastructure, mobility, energy ecosystems and energy management solutions… The list is long and far from exhaustive. In fact, the UN Sustainable Development Goal #9, emphasizes innovation, infrastructure, and sustainable industrialization.

But what do we consider innovation to be? Is it solely high-tech wizardry crafted by specialists in closed rooms? Or does it encompass how we perceive and respond to our world and its challenges?

Going beyond environmental sustainability

When we think of sustainability and innovation, our minds often gravitate towards environmental concerns—topics like circular economy, hydrogen, carbonized soil, and recycled plastics. While these are indeed crucial aspects, there's another dimension of high importance.

Imagine a world where not only our environment thrives but also our communities, where well-being is paramount, and diversity is celebrated. Here lie the other stories we need to uncover, the challenges we need to tackle, and the solutions we need to seek.

This talk gathers brilliant minds from various fields, all championing environmental and social innovations.
