What an enormous facility! The entire campus covers 250 hectares. 11,800 tonnes of steel (enough to recreate 2 Eiffel Towers) and 58,000 m3 of concrete were used to construct the two Clonee 1 and 2 buildings. Announced in 2015, the ground-breaking ceremony for the €200 million facility took place in April 2016 and quickly became the largest construction project in Ireland at the time.

The Facebook data centre predominantly consists of main computer rooms and offices, all of which were fitted with dimmable lights. Mercury Engineering was after DALI fitting cabling solutions; Hager’s klik system was chosen as cable lengths can be customised.

The data centre buildings are structurally incredibly complex – they contain 200,000 kms of fibre optic cables! They could be wrapped around the world five times.
