In May 2019, a new luxury hotel opened its doors in Penang, Malaysia. The 88 Armenian is an architectural masterpiece that uses state-of-the-art technology to carry the charm of days gone by into the future. The three-storey boutique hotel is strategically located in the prominent and culturally rich Armenian Street, the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The history of the hotel goes back to the middle of the 19th century, when the building in the eclectic style of the early Strait was originally a guesthouse housing Armenian merchants. They were attracted to the area not least because of its proximity to the port. And so the street became their eponym.
