To meet the growing demands of its business, Vogten Staal, a specialist in steel services, recently built a 37,000 m² production hall in the Beatrixhaven industrial zone in Maastricht. For this large-scale project, Hager was selected to supply the main distribution boards, sub-distribution boards, and cable management systems.

A Smooth and Efficient Collaboration

From the outset, Hager teams worked closely with Dierx Groep to design a reliable, scalable, and high-performance electrical solution. Casper Dierx, project manager and owner of Dierx Groep, highlighted the importance of this collaboration:

"Vogten Staal asked us to actively contribute to optimizing its new production facilities. After an in-depth analysis of current and future needs, we chose Hager, which offered a comprehensive solution covering all essential aspects: transformer connection, main distribution boards, busbar system, and sub-distribution boards."
Abe de Jong, project manager at Hager, added:

"We supported Dierx Groep from the engineering phase. Our expertise enabled us to design solutions perfectly suited to the site's specific requirements, with optimized distribution systems and a scalable approach to anticipate potential future expansions."

A Future-Proof Electrical Infrastructure

One of the major challenges of the project was managing power distribution. To meet Vogten Staal’s requirements, three Unimes distribution boards were installed, including two interconnected units, providing a total capacity of 8,000 amperes. This modular solution ensures optimal flexibility:

"Currently, the system is powered by a single transformer. However, if power demand increases, a second transformer can be added, increasing capacity by 30% without significantly raising operational costs," explains Casper Dierx.

A 19-Meter Distribution Board: A Mastered Logistical Challenge

All equipment was custom-designed and manufactured at Hager’s Service & Competence Center in Coevorden. One of the most impressive aspects of the project was the installation of a 19-meter-long main distribution board… on the first floor of the building.
Abe de Jong recalls this delicate operation:

"Transporting and installing a distribution board of this size on an upper floor was a real challenge. We used a crane to lift each section. Once in place, our technicians carried out the final assembly."

Thanks to this tailor-made electrical solution, Vogten Staal now benefits from a high-performance and scalable infrastructure capable of supporting its future growth. Projects like this illustrate Hager’s expertise and commitment to supporting large-scale industrial developments.

Technical Specifications of the Project

Two Unimes main distribution boards of 4,000 amperes, designed, manufactured, and installed by Hager:
