April 22nd is International Earth Day
What about Hager’s contribution to the future of the planet?
Earth Day is all about raising awareness of our collective need to curb carbon emissions, save scarce resources and halt global warming. One of the main contributors to climate change is mobility. And building emissions. As it happens, our latest technological advances cover both these areas and have massive potential for a sustainable future.
For carbon-free energy, think renewables
Renewable energy sources are the obvious solution to CO2 emissions. The problem: unreliable generation. The wind doesn’t blow 24/7 and the sun doesn’t shine all the time. Usually, the ensuing gap is filled by conventionally produced energy. So far, so semi-good.
Bidirectional charging
With Hager technology, a solution to this problem is within reach. Our latest state-of-the art intelligent storage systems are capable of something called bidirectional (BiDi) charging. This means the car battery acts as additional storage for the renewable energy you generated and can feed it back into your home system when you need it. Car batteries provide storage capacity up to five times larger than any home storage, so making use of this only makes sense. Plus, your car basically operates as part of a flexible storage system, helping to level out peaks in the communal grid.
Testing with Audi
Last year, we tested this intelligent charging system in a study together with Audi. It was a great success. Demand for this kind of solution, which relies on extremely sophisticated intelligent networks communicating with each other, is expected to go through the roof. Especially in Germany, where, after a sluggish start, last year over 400.000 electric vehicles were sold and where consumers are facing high energy prices.

The backbone of a stable energy system fed by renewables
In the not-so-distant future, this is exactly what Hager Energy’s storage system in connection with our intelligent bidirectional charging systems can be: the backbone of a stable energy system which is fed by millions of decentralised producers using renewables to generate power in residential or commercial buildings. Whether solar, wind or geothermal: your house and car can truly be low-carbon with Hager Energy BiDi technology. This, we believe, can count as a considerable contribution to a healthy planet for the generations to come.
