Resilience, courage and solidarity
Route du Rhum 2022: Fabrice Amedeo is safe and sound
Quick decision making in the face of adversity
Although Fabrice got off to a promising start in the Route du Rhum, on Sunday morning, due to rough seas, one of the ballast tanks designed to provide energy to the boat was damaged. The inside of the boat flooded despite Fabrice’s best efforts to bail out the water, and as a consequence he found himself without electricity. In the interest of safety, Fabrice and his team, decided the best course of action would be to navigate towards the Portuguese coast.
Resilience and courage conquer
While en route to the Portuguese coast, on Monday morning a fire broke out on the boat, leaving Fabrice no option but to jump ship and deploy a life raft. Once aboard the life raft, he tragically watched his boat sink. Rescue operations were immediately launched and Fabrice was rescued by a cargo ship.
Although shaken, Fabrice is safe and dry, and we are relieved to know that he will reach France within the next few hours.
"Hello everyone. I'm safe and sound on a cargo ship which will be dropping me off in the Azores tomorrow morning. My Imoca NEXANS - Art et Fenêtres went down in flames before my eyes. All my dreams have been swallowed up with her. [...] This adventure does not alter my passion for my job and for the ocean."
