Powering performance: Hager electrifies Strasbourg’s iconic RCSA Stadium

19. November 2025

The legendary RCSA Stadium, home of the Racing Club de Strasbourg Alsace, has been reshaped to meet today’s and tomorrow’s environmental, urban and performance standards. Hager was selected to provide the entire electrical infrastructure, adapting both our expertise and collaboration model to meet the scale and ambition of this emblematic project.

As part of a €160 million renovation and expansion programme, the capacity of the historic RCSA Stadium in Strasbourg, France, has grown from 26,000 to 32,000 seats, while the stadium’s entire architecture and infrastructure have been redesigned to create a high-performance, future-ready arena. For this ambitious renovation, Hager was chosen to deliver the complete electrical infrastructure — a recognition not only of our strong roots in the regional and technical expertise, but also of our ability to support large-scale, challenging projects.

Powering complex infrastructures with precision

More than a partnership, this project showcases Hager’s capacity to deliver on highly ambitious, high-performance infrastructure — while working hand in hand with a unique, locally rooted organisation on the ground.

To meet the project’s ambitious requirements, Hager joined forces with a dedicated group of five Alsatian installers, the ELSA consortium, to execute the electrical installation. This unique regional organisation strengthens local jobs, reduces carbon-intensive transport, and builds long-term regional expertise.

Within this organisation, Hager adapted its processes, planning and support to the consortium’s unique structure – as well as the scale and complexity of the new stadium:

At the heart of the system is a 12-metre main switchboard integrating 4 TGBT 2500 A panels, 12 ACBs and 80 TDs, supported by 10,000 wall-mounted devices placed throughout the venue. Together, they form a resilient backbone that secures energy distribution for lighting, safety systems, media infrastructure, hospitality areas and match-day operations, meeting the performance levels required for major sporting events.

A flagship project that builds lasting value for the stadium and the region

“Modernising the RCSA stadium was about more than meeting international standards, it’s about preserving its unique spirit. With shared values and ambition, Racing Club de Strasbourg and Hager are a natural match.”
— Julien Hochedez, RCSA Stadium Project Manager

What began as a stadium renovation has become a wider example of sustainable development and regional cooperation: the new RCSA Stadium embodies a forward-looking vision of sustainable sports infrastructure.

The redesigned arena integrates 860 m² of photovoltaic panels, natural shading elements crafted from recycled A340 fuselages, and a reimagined urban layout that opens the stadium towards the district — including a 5,000-capacity fan zone, 2,500 bicycle spaces, and newly greened areas with 650 trees planted in and around the site.

Thanks to these measures, the stadium is targeting a more than 50% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, approximately 60,000 hours of social inclusion work were carried out on site, contributing to the project’s local social impact.

For Hager, the project also marks a major milestone:

With more than 40 years of continuous innovation, we now bring our expertise in complex infrastructures (from stadiums to retail hubs and logistics platforms) to one of the region’s most iconic public venues — while working hand in hand with local actors.

This achievement is further supported by Hager’s EcoVadis Platinum sustainability rating, which recognises responsible operations across the entire value chain.

As a long-standing sponsor of Racing Club de Strasbourg Alsace, Hager is especially proud to support the transformation of the team’s home stadium as it enters a new chapter.
