Energy efficiency at scale: Hager’s Eficia transforms Carrefour Market

16. December 2025

To help Carrefour Market comply with France’s energy regulations and reduce energy consumption, Hager’s energy management brand Eficia integrated its smart building & energy management platform and 24/7 remote energy control service across stores nationwide. This service is operated by Eficia’s Energy Center, a team of energy engineers who remotely pilot key systems in line with each store’s real needs.

A nationwide rollout for compliance, savings and comfort

With more than 1,020 stores across France, Carrefour Market faced a dual challenge: complying with the French BACS decree – which requires the installation of automation and control systems in buildings – while also responding to a sharp rise in energy costs.  The retailer sought a simple, centralised solution to improve control over heating, lighting and electrical consumption — without adding complexity for their in-store teams.
To meet these requirements, Hager’s energy management brand Eficia deployed its 24/7 Building Management System & Energy Management System (BMS/EMS) and remote building control solution to actively monitor and optimise critical energy consumption in each store.

The solution combines data, smart control scripts and human expertise to ensure regulatory compliance, reduce overconsumption, improve operational efficiency and create a long-term culture of optimised energy performance.

Continuous control and intelligent optimisation in every store

At the heart of the solution is the Eficia Energy Center, combined with a dedicated control application that continuously monitors, analyses and adjusts energy usage across all equipped stores.

The system enables:
Continuous control and optimisation of HVAC and lighting, with setpoints adapted to store schedules and individual zones
Real-time monitoring of electrical consumption, including automatic detection of energy waste, night-time peaks and abnormal shifts
Proactive alerts and rapid intervention, supported by a 24/7 customer service point of contact
Remote access for fine-tuning settings and incident management through a single supervision interface

This combination of permanent monitoring, active control and expert support ensures reliable performance day after day — without adding complexity for the local teams.

“We can always count on the support of the Eficia team, whether we encounter a technical issue or simply need advice on how to best manage our consumption. From an operational standpoint, and for our customers as well, the switch to Eficia has clearly improved the overall in-store experience.”
Yann Lenfant, Carrefour Store Manager FISMES

A smart foundation for long-term energy performance

Beyond immediate regulatory compliance and energy savings, the project also forms the first building block of a broader energy supervision ecosystem. The BMS/EMS deployment is designed to integrate future equipment and data sources, including dynamic water metering, refrigeration systems, low-voltage switchboards, inverters and fuel station control systems.
By gradually connecting these assets into a unified supervision platform, Eficia enables Carrefour Market to build a scalable digital infrastructure that supports long-term performance, improved accountability and continuous optimisation across the entire store network.

Establishing a culture of energy performance in retail

More than a technical upgrade, the project actively supports Carrefour Market’s ambition to embed energy performance into everyday operations. With clear visibility on consumption, real-time alerts and practical monitoring tools via the app, all stakeholders become more aware of their energy use — and more accountable for it.
Acquired in 2023 and now fully integrated into Hager’s Energy Management business unit, Eficia demonstrates through this nationwide deployment its expertise in smart energy management, regulatory compliance and operational efficiency — delivering measurable benefits for retailers, staff, customers and the environment.
This reference project not only strengthens Hager’s position in energy-efficient retail infrastructure but also highlights the strategic role of our Energy Management business in supporting the transition toward more sustainable, data-driven commercial buildings.
