Vendée Globe 2024

The most extreme solo-sailing, unassisted round-the-world ocean race

This year, 40 of the most skilled and courageous skippers will take part in the 10th Vendée Globe, a sailing race which takes off every four years from Sables d’Olonne in France.

Facing the raging elements, those 40 skippers are super-performers who without fear are pushing human and technical boundaries on a round-the-world race covering 45.000km distance over on average 80 days.

This year, Fabrice Amedeo, who is participating in his third Vendée Globe, will be pushing those boundaries a bit further: he will sail this race without using fossil fuels, relying on green energy alone, whilst also collecting valuable data for the scientific community about the health of our oceans. His is another race altogether. Hager Group and E3/DC are proudly sponsoring this extraordinary feat. We have adapted our building energy management systems to fit his boating needs. If he makes it without using fossil fuels, we will be one step closer to a future fuelled by sustainable energy. We share with him the passion, determination and courage which make change happen.

Another Race

Vendée Globe 2024

For our skipper, this Vendée Globe will not only be about performance, courage and surpassing human boundaries. He is adding another dimension to the quest.

Together with Fabrice Amedeo, we are embarking on another race: using Hager Group and E3/DC expertise, he will attempt to show that sailing the world is now possible using renewable energy only.

Three sensors on the boat collect information on the health of the oceans for the duration of the race. It’s an extra 15% energy requirement, but Fabrice is determined to support the scientific community and do it on green energy only.

Building on the success of the first edition in 2020, Fabrice Amedeo released a new education booklet “The Echo of the Oceans” for the Vendée Globe 2024. This new 64-page version dedicated to ocean preservation and the energy transition is now available.

This IMOCA, a former racing boat too old to take part in the race, has been completely renovated and is displayed in the heart of the Vendée Globe village in Les Sables d’Olonnes, France to welcome the public onboard.

What’s at stake at the Vendée Globe?

In 2016, Fabrice came 11th in this most demanding of races. This time, he will not only compete to beat his own record – he wants to show the world that such a race can be done without burning any fossil fuels. Here Fabrice explains this incredible double jeopardy.
