Energy transition for all: Hager Group wins Electrifying Ideas Award
Winning project offers decentralised solution for energy distribution in residential neighbourhoods
Hager Group has received the Electrifying Ideas Award from the Association of Electrical and Digital Industries (ZVEI) for its concept of peer-to-peer power trading in the "Established Companies" category. An independent jury consisting of experts from the fields of business, politics, and society awarded Hager Group among 40 submissions.
The award-winning concept of peer-to-peer power trading in residential neighbourhoods enables end consumers to directly trade energy with each other. In addition to promoting fairer and decentralised energy distribution, the concept can relieve strain on power grids, addressing one of the key challenges of the energy transition.
"In essence, it is about how to meet the increasing power demand more effectively and avoid overloading our power grids using the existing infrastructure," says Torsten Hager, project leader and Business Development Director Group Strategy. “By enabling those who consume less energy to sell their surplus power and generate revenue, all households can participate in the energy transition regardless of their financial strength. At the same time, fewer investments in grid expansion are required as the peer-to-peer power trading can be done with the current power grids”, says Torsten Hager.
"Hager Group's concept shows how we can make better use of resources, simplify processes and distribute energy more intelligently. We can implement sector coupling at a local level thus taking the energy transition in the building sector to the next level," says ZVEI President Dr. Gunther Kegel.
The ZVEI Electrifying Ideas Award recognises innovations and solutions that consider the efficient use of energy and resources and bring clear benefits to society. Daniel Hager, CEO of Hager Group, received the award from Dr. Robert Habeck, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection, during the ZVEI Annual Congress in Berlin.
