Hager Group accepted into Klimaschutz-Unternehmen e.V.

Hager Group is working intensely on making its business a low-carbon operation and on providing solutions for the decarbonization of residential, commercial and industrial buildings. These efforts have now been recognized by the German Verband Klimaschutz-Unternehmen e.V., an initiative of pioneers in climate protection.

Hager Group now counts as a member of the pioneering companies in Germany that provide guidance, best practices and solutions to increase energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The public ceremony and recognition to mark Hager Group’s elevation to the status of Klimaschutz-Unternehmen are scheduled for early 2023 at the Federal Ministry for the Environment in Berlin.

CEO Daniel Hager is convinced that the only road to a successful future is a sustainable one: “Being accepted into Verband Klimaschutz-Unternehmen e.V. makes me very proud. As a family business with strong values, we act today to shape the world of tomorrow. Long-term success can only be achieved on the basis of true sustainability. We want to play a resolute part in the fight against global warming.”

The recognition comes after two years of intense activities designed to understand the company’s carbon footprint and prepare levers to lower its greenhouse gas emissions. With a clear roadmap to cut scope 1 and 2 emissions by 50% and scope 3 emissions by 25% by 2030, Hager Group proves not only ambitious but also presents a well-thought-through path to achieve this goal. In their congratulations, chairman Joerg Schmidt and CEO Philip Andree of Verband Klimaschutz-Unternehmen e.V. appreciated the achievement of Hager Group, pointing out that the membership denoted a “proven and not self-proclaimed pioneering role” in working towards a truly environmentally sustainable business model.

Matthieu Alexandropoulos, the Group’s Head of Environmental Sustainability adds: “We are putting immense effort into turning our company into a low-carbon business. This cannot be achieved over night and will indeed take several years. However, I am particularly pleased we have been able to realise some early achievements. ”

Early achievements and a clear roadmap

Particular measures which are of note are for example the agreement to base management bonuses partly on achieving a 1.5.% cut in 2022 production site CO2 emissions compared to the previous year. Altogether more than 40 energy-efficiency and greenhouse gas reduction initiatives will be rolled out across Hager Group’s most emissive factories. The emissions are monitored monthly. Every two months there is a management board call to cover environmental goals and general climate protection topics to make sure the Group stays on course.

Hager Group plays an important role in the energy transition and low-carbon future: It operates 22 production sites worldwide, five of which are situated in Germany. In addition, the company does not only work on decarbonising its own business, but also provides products and solutions that are directly relevant to a low-carbon future: energy management systems, smart home solutions, energy storage for renewable energy and electromobility products including Research & Development for bidirectional charging.
