Federal Minister Robert Habeck and Prime Minister Anke Rehlinger visit Hager Group to explore innovations for the energy transition

The Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection, Robert Habeck, used his visit to Saarland today to find out more about Hager Group’s location and innovation projects. He was accompanied by Prime Minister Anke Rehlinger and Minister Jürgen Barke.

Hager Group prepares buildings and neighbourhoods for the energy transition

Hager Group presented its work on cutting-edge topics such as intelligent energy management systems, bidirectional charging functionalities, and charging stations for electromobility as well as the digitalisation of energy distribution in buildings. With these solutions, the company, headquartered in Blieskastel, Saarland, is paving the way for the energy transition in buildings and neighbourhoods.

Vice-Chancellor and Federal Minister Robert Habeck:

"We need companies that take decisive action and need to use energy more efficiently and flexibly in the building sector. With these innovations, opportunities are being seized to advance the energy transition and achieve the climate targets by 2045."

Saarland's Prime Minister Anke Rehlinger:

"Hager Group is a proud example of Saarland's strong performance and innovation capabilities and of Franco-German cooperation. Continuous research and further development in close collaboration with universities and co-operation partners drive technology transfer and make us as a region attractive for the talents of the future."

Sabine Busse, CEO of Hager Group:

"We are doing our bit to enable the energy transition in the building sector. For the continued development of our technologies, we enter partnerships with municipal utilities and car manufacturers to achieve customer-centered solutions. Competitive local conditions and trust in entrepreneurial freedom are important prerequisites for doing so."

Innovation project for grid stability

In a cooperation project with Stadtwerke Saarbrücken, Hager Group is setting up components of a smart grid in a test environment to investigate and refine the intelligent interaction between the electricity grid, actors, and buildings in a controlled manner. The aim of the project is to use smart metering and energy management systems to gain new insights into how to increase energy efficiency in the neighborhood and avoid grid overloads.

Field test for bidirectional charging

Hager Group is also working on research projects with renowned German car manufacturers (VW and Audi) to test bidirectional charging technology. The aim is to improve the ecological footprint of electric vehicles (EVs) and to utilise renewable energies more effectively and flexibly for the energy supply of buildings. The EV battery is used to supply energy to the building in an optimised exchange of electricity between vehicles and homes.
