Hotel K23: Reaching New Heights in Cuba
The 565-room Hotel K23, situated close to the centre of Havana in Vedado, stands as a monumental achievement. With 42 floors reaching a height of 152 meters, Hotel K23 is the tallest building in Cuba. The Cuban authorities played a pivotal role in awarding this prestigious project, prioritizing "solid, long-lasting, and durable solutions," which led to Hager securing the contract over other strong regional competitors. This marks our first major project in Cuba, where hotels and tourism are vital to the local economy.
A Powerful Partnership
The constructor, Bouygues Batiment International, trusted Hager to provide all the enclosures (120 boards and 565 hotel rooms) for this landmark project. The building features two separate Main Distribution Boards (MDBs). The first, MDB-1 for General Facilities, is powered from two sources: a transformer and a generator, each delivering 2,500A. Both sources are protected by interlocked Air Circuit Breakers (ACBs) and controlled by our Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS) to ensure continuity of service. The installed enclosure, a Quadro+ model, measures 800mm in depth, 2100mm in height, and 5400mm in width. Hager has designed this to be accessible from both sides in the technical room to facilitate safe and easy maintenance management.
Tailored to Deliver
The second MDB, MDB-2 for HVAC systems, is also powered from two sources: the transformer delivers 2500A, while the generator delivers 1600A. Similar to MDB-1, both power inputs are interlocked with our ATS model HZI855. This second distribution enclosure, designed to fit into a small technical room, is a Quadro+ with a 600mm depth and two corner cells.
Making the Most of It with HagerCad
The complete project was meticulously designed using HagerCad, a comprehensive electrical design software from Hager that simplifies planning, execution, and verification of electrical installations. Some verifications were done with HagerCad.Ned to ensure that the Hager solution complies with specifications. This advanced tool was instrumental in ensuring the project's compliance with all necessary technical requirements, making it a key component in the architectural and engineering success of Hotel K23.
This important Hager project is now a prominent feature on the Havana skyline. A special shout-out goes to our partner and importer, "GUARCONSA Cuba," without whom we would not have known of this opportunity. Their extensive understanding and intimate knowledge of the complex Cuban market have been essential to the success of the project.
